Have you ever wondered how we arrive at the figure of the world's hottest / coldest summer?
Jennifer Marohasy puts to test the claim that this has been the hottest June in Antarctic. She went straight to the source – Mawson weather station in the Antarctic which has maintained temperature records since 1954 – only to find that when the June maximum temperatures for Mawson are ranked highest to lowest, June 2023 comes in as the 29th hottest.
So where did this claim arise from? Through the creative use of averaging numbers. Read and weep!
